Destination Wedding Photography Hacks

Who doesn’t love destination wedding photography? Everything from “Trash the Dress” pictures to freezing those treasured emotional moments in time forever.   The key to getting those treasured wedding shots into your wedding book is the question.  Here is some great Destination Wedding Photography hacks to help you seize the moment with for those picture-perfect destination wedding shots. They will be yours to keep and remember for a lifetime.

To Tan or Not to Tan- Is that Still a Thing

When you imagine your wedding pictures, no doubt, one of the first things that come to mind is your skin tone against your bright, white wedding dress. For our beautiful South Asian and African American destination wedding brides, dear you already have it going on.  However, if you are sporting that lily-white skin against a stark white wedding dress, you do need a little colour. It’s going to help brighten up the contrast between your wedding attire and your beautiful skin.  My best hack here is to bring pre-trip spray tan to use before your wedding nuptials. Pack it in your checked bag so it’s fresh and ready to go pre-wedding day. Don’t rely on resorts to stock this, they seldom do. A product I personally love is Fake Bake. Whatever you do, don’t fall into the “have to hit the beach” pre-wedding tan blitz.  You definitely don’t want to create burns, have unsightly tan lines, or uneven skin or redness before your beautiful wedding day photoshoot.

To Fly or Not to Fly- Do You Bring Your Wedding Photographer

Before you bring your photographer down with you or hire a destination wedding photographer who lives in a destination, consider these things. Many resorts and suppliers offer credits for every passenger booked. This is a great question to ask your travel planner initially when comparing resorts. What many of our couples do is to save credits to pay for their photographer’s way down. Generally, if your photography is staying on property for three+ days, you will also be able to bypass any resort vendor fees. However, to compare, there usually are outstanding photographers that live in your destination of choice. They work directly for the resorts or work with wedding planners in the area. These photographers can be a fantastic option for your wedding day photos. They know the properties well, know all the best places to shoot, which, of course, turns into incredible wedding day photo memories.

To Trash the Dress or Not to Trash the Dress

For many brides, the trash the dress session scheduled after their wedding is one of the highlights of their wedding. The opportunity to have this one of a kind photo opportunities is something you won’t find at an at-home wedding. In Mexico, the Cenotes found uniquely in the Riviera Maya area outside of Cancun provide the backdrop for some of the most fantastic trash the dress photos ever. Just to add, they don’t come cheap, though. Specialized photography equipment, often two to three photographers, private transportation to and from all do add up but are worth the money. What you receive is incredible wedding memories to treasure for a lifetime. Otherwise, couples can enjoy a fun-filled afternoon taking shots in the ocean, horseback riding, pool pictures. Really the sky is the limit when it comes to those fun-filled after wedding shoots you will have as much fun making as you enjoy them later.

To Marry Divine- To Bring the Group Along- Even More Devine

My last hack for excellent destination wedding photos is to do a little planning about your group wedding pictures before flying down to your destination. Have a look at other destination wedding photography, including the bridal party, photos with parents and general group pictures. Trust me; there are amazing pictures out there that your photographer would love to re-create for you. Keep a copy of the images you like and bring them with you. Better yet discuss with your photographer pre-wedding so he/she can plan accordingly. Any couples pictures you think are unique and beautiful and may work into your wedding landscape. Your photographer can use these as inspiration in creating your own unique wedding photo day. It’s much better to pre-plan the types of pictures you’ll want. That way, you’ll avoid those “Oh Gosh I forgot to take pictures with” moments after you return.
