The quaint resorts of Polis and Latchi are an ideal choice for guests seeking a taste of Cyprus at its most authentic. Just 45 minutes from Paphos, they sit between a crescent of golden coastline and the majesty of the Troodos Mountains. Between, you’ll find these two resorts, both bursting with old-fashioned charm.
Polis is the larger of the two and nothing could be more pleasant than an afternoon spent in the main square where you’ll find an abundance of charming shops boasting artisan wares and delicious foods. Pull up a chair at one of the traditional pavement cafes and watch the world go by… such bliss.
The smaller village of Latchi has romance at its core. After all, this is where Aphrodite first met Adonis! Romantic couples still flock to this pretty village where the beach is uncrowded and suppers are candle-lit at the harbourside.
Often, authentic comes in lieu of beach but not here! The sweeping coastline is part of Khrysokou Bay. Here, you’ll find beaches boasting watersports for the adventurous and untouched coves where you may be lucky enough to spot the nesting turtles. We love that the water is calm and gently shelving, making it ideal for families with small children. If we may make one recommendation, it would be to hire a bicycle or simply hike through the lush surroundings of the Akamas National Park. Here, you’ll find no less than 50 signposted walks that allow you to take in the beauty of the countryside. Byzantine Monasteries and tucked-away villages always delight adventurous explorers.
This pretty region is not for those seeking waterparks and English breakfasts. Nor, is it for those wanting to party into the early hours. However, if you appreciate simple authenticity, stunning scenery and welcoming Cypriot smiles… it could be for you.
